Adding and Editing a Debt

Tracking debts is an essential part of estate administration. Adding debts to a matter ensures all outstanding obligations are accounted for during probate.


How to Add a Debt

  1. Open the matter and navigate to the Debts section in the Estate Overview tab.

  2. Click Add Debt.

  3. Select the debt category (e.g., Credit Card Debt, Mortgage, Taxes Owed, etc.).

  4. Fill in the category-specific fields.

  5. Enter the Value at Death and Current Value.

  6. Set the 706 Schedule if applicable.

  7. Attach a file if you have one.

  8. Click Save to add the debt.


✏️ How to Edit a Debt

  1. Open the matter and navigate to the Debts section in the Estate Overview tab.

  2. Click on the debt you want to edit.

  3. Update any fields as needed.

  4. Click Save to apply your changes.


Approval Workflow


Debts submitted by clients through the client portal are initially unapproved. They must be reviewed and approved by the firm before they appear in the Estate Overview, learn more.
