How to View Files Your Attorney Has Shared With You

Learn how to view, download, and respond to documents your attorney shares with you in the EstateMin client portal.

Your attorney can share documents with you through the client portal, and can ask you to upload documents they need. Both happen in the Estate Files step.

📂 Where to Find Shared Files

  1. Sign in to your client portal.

  2. Open the Estate Files step.

  3. Look at the Status/Actions column.

    1. A document your attorney has just shared shows Needs review and moves to the top of the list with an orange dot beside it.

  4. Select the row to open it.

👁️ How to View a Shared File

Inside the row you will see a section called Documents shared by your attorney.

  1. Click the eye icon beside a file to open it in a new browser tab.

  2. Click the download icon if you would like to save a copy to your device.

  3. Open every file listed, then click Cancel to go back.

The status changes from Needs review to Shared with me once you have opened the files and saved.

🏷️ What the Statuses Mean

Each document in the list has a status. A document can have more than one at the same time.

  • Needs review: Your attorney shared a new file for you to review.

  • Shared with me: You have viewed the file shared by your attorney.

  • Awaiting attorney document: Your attorney has not shared a file yet.

  • Upload requested: You can upload this document if you have a copy.

  • Uploaded by me: You have uploaded a file for your attorney.

📎 How to Upload a File Your Attorney Requested

If a document shows Upload requested, your attorney would like a copy from you.

  1. Select the row to open it.

  2. Under Requested from you, click Attach File.

  3. Choose the file from your device.

  4. Click Save.

The status changes to Uploaded by me. Your attorney reviews the file before it is added to the estate record.

🗑️ How to Remove a File You Uploaded

You can remove a file you uploaded while it is still waiting with your attorney.

  1. Select the row to open it.

  2. Find your file under Uploaded by you.

  3. Click the delete icon beside it.

  4. Click Save.

If your attorney has already accepted the file, you can no longer remove it yourself. Contact your attorney if it needs to be taken out.

💡 Good to Know

  • The maximum file size is 25 MB.

  • You can attach more than one file to the same document type.

  • The ⓘ icon beside a document name shows any instructions your attorney has left for you.

  • Your attorney can share new documents at any time, including after you have marked the step complete.

❓ Will I Get an Email When My Attorney Shares a File?

Yes. When your attorney shares a document with you, you will receive an email letting you know a new file is waiting in your portal. Sign in, open the Estate Files step, and look for the row marked Needs review.

The email comes from EstateMin, so if you are expecting a document and have not seen it, check your spam or junk folder.
