The Client Portal lets the people your firm works with submit information directly to your firm. Not every person on a matter can be invited. Who is eligible depends on the matter type.
👤 Who Can Be Invited
Probate matters
Only people with one of these roles can be invited:
Personal Representative - Executor
Personal Representative - Administrator
Other roles, such as Beneficiary, Heir, Guardian for Minor Children, Guardian for an Adult, Witness and Trustee, cannot be invited.
Estate Planning matters
Only people with the Client role can be invited. An Estate Planning matter can have at most two clients, so up to two people can have a portal. People with other roles, such as an executor or beneficiary named in the plan, cannot be invited.
✅ Requirements
The person must have an eligible role on the matter, as listed above.
The person must have an email address on file in Clio. If no email is set, the invite button is disabled and shows "No email set."
The person's email cannot already belong to an EstateMin user, such as your own sign-in email. If it does, the invite cannot be sent and you will see an error. To fix this, open the matter's Estate Overview, click the person in the People table, change their email to one that is not already in use, then send the invite.
💡 Good to Know
Eligible people are listed on the Invite a client page under Client portals in the matter's left panel. On Probate matters, a note on that page reminds you: "Currently only executors / administrators can have client portals."
For how to send the invite, see How to Invite Your Client to their Client Portal.
To try the portal yourself before inviting clients, see How to Test the Client Portal Before Inviting Clients.
