What Happens After You Submit Information

Learn what happens after you submit information, files, or a questionnaire to your attorney.

Once you add people, assets, debts, or expenses through the client portal, upload a file your attorney has asked you for, or submit a questionnaire, your information is sent to your attorney for review. Here is what happens next.

🔍 The Review Process

  1. Your attorney receives a notification that new items, files, or answers have been submitted.

  2. They review what you submitted for accuracy and completeness.

  3. If everything looks good, they accept it and it becomes part of the official estate record.

  4. If something needs correction, your attorney may contact you directly.

📎 What Happens to a File You Upload

A file you upload in the Estate Files step goes to your attorney first. They review it and accept it into the estate files. If there is a problem with it, they will get in touch.

Your attorney can also share documents with you in the same step. See How to View Files Your Attorney Has Shared With You.

📝 What Happens to a Questionnaire You Submit

When you click Submit answers, your questionnaire goes to your attorney to review. They read your answers and accept them, and the questionnaire becomes part of the matter record.

Your attorney may send the questionnaire back to you with a note asking you to update something. If that happens you will receive an email. Sign in, open the Questionnaire step, read the note, update your answers, and submit again.

This is a normal part of the process and usually means something needs clarifying. See How to Complete Your Questionnaire in the Client Portal.

💡 Key Points to Remember

  • Items, files, and answers you submit are not added to the estate straight away. They go through a review process first.

  • Only your attorney can approve items and add them to the Estate Overview.

  • Once you open a document your attorney has shared and click Save, it is marked Shared with me.

  • You can continue to add items and files even after marking a step as complete.

  • If your attorney asks you to revise a questionnaire, the answers they already accepted stay on file until you submit updated ones.

  • Don't worry if you're not sure about something. Your attorney will help fill in any gaps.
